Viktoria Aschaffenburg has reacted to the loss of goalkeeper Max Grün (38, torn hamstring) and signed Dutchman Eric Verstappen, who was recently without a club – – according to the club, for just two games with no further option. The 31-year-old was under contract with TSG Hoffenheim II until the summer.
“I am glad that we were able to sign such a good goalkeeper for the next two important games at short notice,” said sports director Felix Magath, who experienced Verstappen during his time at the Würzburger Kickers.
Head coach Daniel Soldevilla explained the short-term signing: “After Max Grün’s injury and in view of the fact that we have to play two extremely important games before the winter break, we have decided to take this step. Eric Verstappen is an experienced goalkeeper and knows the Bavarian Regional League, so we hope that he will be able to direct our young defense well.”
