From November 17th to 18th, 2025 the rector was the Ilia State University from Georgia, Prof. Nino Doborjginidze visiting the Lübeck University of Technology. During discussions with President Dr. Muriel Helbig, Vice President Prof. Dr. Karen Cabos, Head of the Study and Teaching Department, International Office, Dr. Sonja Luther, and the internationalization officer for the departments Prof. Dr. Claas Heymann (Applied Natural Sciences), Prof. Dr. Christoph Külls (construction), Prof. Dr. Andreas Schäfer (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science), Prof. Dr. Roland Kral (mechanical engineering and economics), a wide range of cooperation opportunities were explored.
Stronger together in the field of electrical engineering and computer science
A focus of the visit: Helbig and Doborjginidze signed a cooperation agreement for the universities. The agreement lays the foundation for cooperation in education, research and development in the fields of electrical engineering and computer science.
The partnership promotes mobility between Germany and Georgia of students and employees, joint research activities, publications, conferences and seminars. Academic exchange formats, the joint expansion of the curriculum as well as the exchange of summer schools and scientific findings are also planned.
Diverse insights on campus
The Rector visited the CoSA competence center, the laboratory for usability engineering and verification and the EMLE specialist group (Electromobility, Power Electronics and Decentralized Energy Supply) on campus. Here she gained insights into current projects and innovative research.
Digital learning and international perspectives
She also got to know Lübeck’s city center and found out more about it TRANSITIONAL HOUSE. The project manager of the Lübeck learning location, Thomas Lange, led a tour of the former Karstadt building and presented the offers Digital Learning Campus for people of all ages.
On an evening of Lübeck to the power of 3 Doborjginidze was able to find out why internationalization is important in science and for a location like Lübeck. A keynote speech by the President of the DAADProf. Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee, provided insights on the topic: International cooperation in times of a new world order. DAAD’s role in change with reference to the 100th anniversary year of the DAAD.
