Heroic: officers rescue teenager from water in New York

The New York Police Department has shared images of a heroic action. On Tuesday, an officer rescued a teenager from the waters of the Harlem River. In the video you can hear the girl calling for help. The Harlem River is an approximately fourteen mile long tidal strait in New York City. The water separates the island of Manhattan from The Bronx on the mainland. It is not a traditional river with a fixed flow direction, but a waterway influenced by the tides. These tides can change the direction of the current and the force of the water can be significant, making swimming physically challenging, even for experienced swimmers.
