Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone -film is based on JK Rowling’s novel of the same name from 1997. The film is the first part of the Harry Potter film series and was directed by Chris Columbuswritten by Steve Kloves and produced by David Heyman. Its story follows Harry Potter’s first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, when he discovers that he is a famous wizard.
The film became a major and commercial success, grossing $975.1 million (approximately €840 million) at the box office worldwide.
It was the highest-grossing film of 2001 and became the second highest-grossing film of all time after its 1997 release Titanic after. It is also the second most successful film in the Harry Potter film series right after the series ended Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 after.
