DFrom 19 to 28 November, Milan returns to being the stage of Moira Orfei, timeless icon, emblem of the circus and Italian popular culture.

The initiative, curated by Alessandro Serena, nephew of Moira Orfei and professor of History of circus and street entertainment, among the leading experts in Italy on this art form, “Moira forever” is a project supported by the Lombardy Region, by the Ministry of Culture and created by Mosaico Errante, one of the main theater-circus companies in Italy.

«Moira Orfei’s life was a twentieth century fairy tale. Descended from an ancient circus family, Moira Orfei was able to transform herself from a perfect stranger to a star of the big screen, and to be, at the same time, a sex symbol and children’s idol» says Alessandro Serena.

The “Moira forever” project celebrates the tenth anniversary of the death of the popular icon, a symbolic figure who contributed to transforming the circus into an organized artistic activity, admired throughout the world. The values ​​and the open and sunny character of Moira Orfei they unknowingly made her a model of inclusion, freedom of expression and female emancipation. No Italian circus performer has ever been the subject of such extensive and prolonged media exposure. An artistic and entrepreneurial journey spanning over half a century and dotted with successes on the big and small screen, and meetings with celebrities.

The Study Days on Circus Art

At the center of the celebrations for the anniversary of the death of Moira Orfei, The Study Days on Circus Art are back, scheduled from 24 to 28 November at the State University of Milan. Born as an opportunity for discussion between the academy and the circus world, over the years these days have become a real moment of reference which this year will highlightI delve into the artistic and cultural legacy of this great circus artist with lessons, round tables and practical workshops.

The 5 days open to the publicthey will see the participation of international artists, scholars, critics and protagonists of circus entertainment, including Arturo Brachetti, Stefano Orfei Nones (Moira’s son), Brigitta Boccoli, Walter Jr and Moira Jr (Moira’s grandchildren) and other members of the Orfei family.
