At 35, former Schalke goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall hasn’t had enough of professional football. The former German junior national goalkeeper has been between the posts for Twente Enschede since 2021. “My contract runs until the summer of 2027. If I continue to feel as fit as I do now, I see no reason to hang up my gloves,” the veteran is quoted by “WAZ”.

Nevertheless, Unnerstall is thinking about the time after his career ends: “I’m currently in the process of becoming clear about my options and thinking about what I can imagine – both in football and outside of it.” An opportunity may arise with his current employer in the Netherlands. “Maybe I can try out a little bit here – in goalkeeper training, in management or in the scouting area. I want to get to know different things and find out what suits me. But until then I hope that I can play many more games for Twente,” said Unnerstall.

The Ibbenbüren-born professional played more competitive games for no other club in his career than for Twente: 174. This was followed by appearances for VVV-Venlo (66), training club Schalke (47), PSV Eindhoven (22), FC Aarau (16) and Fortuna Düsseldorf (12). With Twente, Unnerstall is currently in 8th place in the Eredivisie.
