An earthquake occurred in Zeerijp last night, Thursday 13 and Friday 14 November at 1.16 am. The KNMI determined the magnitude of the earthquake at 3.4 on the Richter scale. An aftershock with a magnitude of 2.1 occurred at 6:39 am. The Zeerijp earthquake is the third heaviest earthquake ever recorded in Groningen.

Eddie van Marum, State Secretary for Recovery in Groningen: ‘Last night’s severe earthquake in Zeerijp is once again a hard blow for Groningen residents, on top of everything that has happened before. It’s terrible that people have to go through this again and again. I understand that this evokes feelings of insecurity, fear and worry. And for many people this also brings back memories of previous earthquakes. My thoughts are with the residents of this area, and with all Groningen residents. I am going to Groningen this afternoon and will be there mainly to lend a listening ear and to support the people. I am in close contact with local administrators and implementing organizations in order to provide them with the best possible service if requested.’
