On Friday and Monday Germany will fight for the World Cup ticket. Joshua Kimmich will miss at least one of the games.

Setback for the German national team: As the DFB announced on Thursday, Joshua Kimmich suffered a capsule injury in his right ankle during training. The captain will travel to the international match in Luxembourg (Friday from 8:45 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online), but will not be available for national coach Julian Nagelsmann. At the final training session this Thursday he could only watch.

In its statement on Platform X, the DFB did not say whether Kimmich would be fit again for the decisive game in Leipzig against Slovakia on Monday. The coming days may decide the 30-year-old’s availability.

However, it is assumed that the break is purely a precautionary measure so as not to endanger Kimmich’s commitment to the Slovakia game and the rest of the season with FC Bayern. National coach Nagelsmann will explain details at the press conference in Luxembourg at 6 p.m.

For Kimmich, Ridle Baku from Leipzig should take the position as right full-back. The 27-year-old was brought back to the DFB team by Nagelsmann in October after a long break as a backup for Kimmich.

The failure in the captaincy question is piquant. Kimmich’s deputies Antonio Rüdiger and Kai Havertz are not part of the current squad after injuries. After Kimmich (105 international matches), Leroy Sané (70) has the most DFB appearances.

The 29-year-old from Galatasaray was brought back into the squad by Nagelsmann after a break but only as a probationary measure.
