The arrival of a music school and concert location may therefore be taken into account. Because after a period of searching, a place for De Muziekfabriek seems to be more than just something for the future. The foundation is in discussions with Facet about settling in its new home on Mondriaanplein.
The Music Factory once arose from plans for a Harmonium Museum, which later evolved into a broader initiative for music lessons, rehearsals and concerts. “Facet likes it. So do we,” says foundation chairman Wim Feldhaus. “But it is not yet 100 percent certain. We have to look carefully at whether we can support this financially with the use we have in mind.”
The Music Factory expects to need approximately three hundred square meters: several teaching rooms, a small and a larger room for rehearsals and performances. The starting point is initially two hundred students, but growth is expected quickly, according to Feldhaus.
Amateur music in Emmen is currently spread everywhere, says Feldhaus. “Choirs and orchestras rehearse in churches, orchestras in school buildings and sometimes messy halls. Independent music teachers are also everywhere. We want to bundle everything under one roof as much as possible.”
He compares it to what it once was like at CQ music school, the former center for art and culture. “But we want, on the vibe After all, there is no new CQ,” emphasizes Feldhaus. Music schools have disappeared everywhere in the Netherlands. CQ employed people, we want to work with independent teachers who we offer space. That is better in line with today’s times.”
