After five competitive game wins in a row, the FC Bayern Munich basketball players left the floor as losers again. In the EuroLeague, the German champions lost at home against FC Barcelona 74:75 (32:43). Munich head coach Gordon Herbert was absent due to illness and was replaced by assistant coach TJ Parker.
In the first five attacks, Bayern lost the ball four times, then long-time NBA player Spencer Dinwiddie brought the hosts into the game with the first seven points. But a rhythm was not to be established; Bayern were behind 15:20 after the first quarter. In the second half, the Munich team had no access defensively, so their deficit grew to eleven points at the break.
Spencer Dinwiddie misses a free throw for overtime
After Dinwiddie had carried Munich forward with 16 points in the first half, Bayern also played better as a team after the break. The hosts briefly equalized at the end of the third quarter. With the score at 73:75, Dinwiddie went to the free throw line with 1.2 seconds left in the game, hit his first attempt, but missed his second attempt. This meant that Bayern missed extra time and lost the game. Dinwiddie was Munich’s best scorer with 17 points along with Oscar da Silva.
The game against Barcelona was Bayern’s last EuroLeague home game for a few weeks. There will be seven away games in a row in the European Cup, next on Friday in Istanbul, before Munich plays another home game in the EuroLeague on December 23rd.
