The Liahona, a 2005 37-foot sailboat with a white hull and dark blue finish, was scheduled to dock in Bermuda on Nov. 6 to refuel and replenish supplies. No further GPS data or communications have been received since the signal disappeared at 8:12 p.m. Ouest France reports this.
The US Coast Guard and the Bermuda Rescue Coordination Center have since conducted large-scale searches, both by plane and by ship, but so far without results.
‘Completely self-sufficient cruise’
Marie Descoubes is the founder of the Élément-Terre Sail association, through which she is committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly sailing. In an interview with Sud-Ouest she said her mission was “to make a complete Atlantic cruise, completely self-sufficient,” to show that adventure and respect for nature can go hand in hand.

Her family and friends are following the developments with great excitement. According to her mother, Nathalie Le Roux, it is possible that the fuel shortage caused the electricity on board to fail, making communication impossible. There is also stormy weather in the area, which complicates the search.
On Facebook, Le Roux made an emotional appeal: “If you like them or the Liahona see, please contact me immediately. Share this information with all your sailing contacts.”
