Medicines, supplements, rehabilitation and visits have a significant impact. The message of the model and activist to raise awareness on the issue

November 12 – 2.33pm – MILAN

With a series of images shared on social media, Giorgia Soleri has returned to press on a topic very dear to her. The activist, model and writer published a post with which she wanted to make public the amounts spent to treat her health condition. Beyond 8 thousand euros in a year to manage the symptoms of her vulvodynia, a very disabling and painful chronic disorder that the 29-year-old doesn’t want to abandon. With his usual frankness, Soleri thus transformed his people “pain receipts” into a powerful denunciation tool, to tell a reality that is still too little known.

The “receipts of pain” by Giorgia Soleri

“Spending these figures on your health today, in Italy, should be considered a scandal. Yet this is what happens, in general silence, around 4 million people every day“, wrote Giorgia Soleri on Instagram. In the post she attached a scrupulous count of all the expenses, amounting to well 8,463 euros in twelve monthsexcluding travel costs to reach clinics and specialists.

Giorgia Soleri’s complaint about vulvodynia

“Because despite art. 32 of our Constitution talking about health protection as a fundamental right of the individual and interest of the community, vulvodynia and chronic pelvic pain they are not yet recognized by the state“, continued Giorgia Soleri. “How does this translate concretely into our lives? Not only in the costs, often prohibitive, that we are forced to bear; because we pay the most important price with our lives, torn apart by disease and invalidated by a system that reminds us, day after day, month after month, that for some people health is a luxury”.

A difficult period for Giorgia Soleri

The last few months have been particularly difficult for Giorgia Soleri. Last July, the model and activist announced the death of her father, with whom she had had a complicated relationship but which she had managed to mend in the last days of her life. “Early this morning, my dad passed away. At his side was my aunt, the person who was closest to him even in life. We had seen each other two days ago, and when I said goodbye to him I said ‘come on, see you next week’ he had knowingly replied ‘eh, let’s hope'”, the influencer said. “But it relieves me to know that the last words I said to him, shaking his hand, were ‘I love you’“.

How are Giorgia Soleri today?

For a long time Giorgia Soleri speaks openly about physical and mental health. “28 years of which more than half in therapy, 11 of diagnostic delay and 14 with chronic pain”, he had written some time ago in response to a fan. “Despite this, every day is a constant and endless workout“. And again: “When you have a body that works against you you understand two things: the first is that you don’t need new ways to get yourself into troubleyour flesh already takes care of it; the second is that the body is not the end but it is yours instrument of experience in the world“. In one of his latest updates, Soleri also said that he had started therapy with medical cannabis to alleviate the chronic pain: “Yes, I just started. I guess it’s too early to feel any benefits,” he said.
