Around 8 a.m., a woman saw someone take off with her parked vehicle on Bareelweg. Thanks to cameras with license plate recognition, the police quickly spotted the stolen Fiat 500, after which a chase ensued. The suspect allegedly fled at high speed to Maldegem, Sluis and Knokke-Heist.
The vehicle finally came to a stop again in Bruges. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the stolen vehicle crashed after colliding with a pole in Sint-Kruis. The 34-year-old driver was taken to hospital, but no one else was injured in the incident. After questioning, the public prosecutor’s office will have to decide whether the suspect should be arraigned.
