She shapes her industry and already has numerous medals in her closet. However, Isabell Werth is now taking a break from tournaments for personal reasons.

Isabell Werth is foregoing tournament starts for the time being. The dressage rider and eight-time Olympic champion mourns the loss of her long-time partner Wolfgang Urban, who died at the beginning of October at the age of 80.

“She’s taking a rest period,” said national coach Monica Theodorescu. Werth “doesn’t want to ride in public” at the moment. Urban previously worked as a manager in the retail industry and led the group as CEO after the merger of Karstadt and Quelle from 2000 to 2004. Werth met him while working for Karstadt AG. The couple has a son together.

Werth had actually planned to compete at the indoor riding tournament in Stuttgart this weekend. According to Theodorescu, the successful rider is now aiming to compete at the Frankfurt tournament in December.
