Business association Unique.Amsterdam is responsible for placing the Christmas tree. Last year, according to the association, the Christmas tree was decorated late; This year they wanted to do it completely differently and put up the tree earlier.
Jean-Pierre Berentsen of the entrepreneurs’ association is happy: “We asked if it could be done a little earlier, and we succeeded. It generated many nice responses.”

Not everyone thinks the same as Jean-Pierre. A passerby finds it strange: “The Christmas tree is already there, but Sinterklaas is only coming this weekend.”
“I don’t like it,” says another passerby. “Festivities should remain seasonal, so that there is excitement and dynamism. Now you can have and buy everything you want all year round. We are a spoiled society.”
Other passers-by actually find it pleasant that the lights are already on. “I think it’s just in time. Nice and cozy. We just have to have fun together.”
