There had already been a dispute between FC Barcelona and the Spanish association over Lamine Yamal in October. Now the star has been left out of the Spain squad.
Superstar Lamine Yamal has been left out of the Spanish national team’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifying games. This was announced by the Spanish football association RFEF. At the same time, the association criticized Yamal’s club, FC Barcelona, in clear terms.
The reason: According to the association, Yamal underwent treatment for his pubic area problems on Monday morning, the day training began with the national team. The association’s medical department wanted to express “its surprise and discomfort” about this, it said in the association’s statement on Tuesday.
“This operation was carried out without prior notice to the national team’s medical staff, who only learned of the details through a report received at 10:40 p.m. last night, which indicated a doctor’s recommendation for a 7 to 10 day rest period,” the association continued.
The Spanish association has decided “taking into account the health, safety and well-being of the player” to exempt Yamal from the current nomination. “We trust in a positive development and wish him a quick and complete recovery,” the statement concludes.
There had already been a dispute between the association and FC Barcelona over Yamal after the last international matches in October. The 18-year-old was already injured back then, but was still used twice by the national team for over 70 minutes. As a result, he was initially out of action for Barcelona. Coach Hansi Flick then publicly criticized the association. “This is not caring for the players,” he said, among other things.
Before the current international break, the German coach emphasized again that he expected the association “to take care of him”. Now Yamal isn’t there at all because of the apparently unconsulted treatment. It is quite possible that the club wanted to take revenge for the actions in October.
