In the province of Entre Ríos, and more precisely in the town of Gualeguay, a rural worker has gained notoriety on social networks for his striking resemblance to President Javier Milei. This is Diego Barreto, who has an Instagram account where he publishes videos of his workday accompanied by fragments of the president’s speeches.

Barreto uploaded his first video, in a humorous way, on April 16, 2024, where he appears “interviewed” by a colleague who introduces him as “President Milei”, to which he responds by imitating the president’s hoarse voice and quotes phrases such as “dollarize the economy”, “bring Argentina forward” and “end inflation”.

Since then, he has used his public profile to share “musicalized” content with audios from Milei mixed with scenes from his rural work.

In one of his most recent publications, which reached more than 138,000 views at the close of the article, Barreto appears alongside another man who emulates the governor of the province, Rogelio Frigerio, in a striking clip where both “officials” celebrate the victory of October 26 accompanied by libertarian chants. The caption of the video reads: “Here with Milei and Frigerio having a fresh one.”

The publications show Barreto carrying out tasks typical of the countryside—such as drinking mate in the truck or cooking—and wearing a “smile identical to Milei’s,” as users highlight in the comments. Many of these comments say things like “How great our president is, now he dedicates himself to horses” or “Milei has to go out to work to move the country forward.”

Although several media outlets tried to contact him, Barreto has so far not agreed to provide interviews. Meanwhile, it continues to accumulate followers and views thanks to its peculiar fusion of rural prominence, political parody and digital virality.
