Levi’s begins construction of logistics center for European market

Levi’s has started construction work on a 70,000 square meter logistics center in Dorsten, North Rhine-Westphalia.

The new “logistics hub” is scheduled to go into operation at the end of April 20214, the company announced on Wednesday. Levi’s sees the deal as “an important step in realizing strategic goals in Europe,” said Liz O’Neill, Levi’s executive vice president and chief operations officer. The European market is to be covered from Dorsten – up to 55 million items are coordinated in the center. Above all, Levi’s wants to advance the omnichannel strategies.

The logistics center is being built on a former mining site in the Große Heide Wulfen industrial park and is providing “an important impetus in the ongoing economic transformation of North Rhine-Westphalia”. Levi’s creates 650 jobs with the logistics center. The rental period is intended for at least 20 years.

In terms of construction, the focus is on circularity – recycling, resource conservation and waste reduction should balance out the ecological footprint of the future logistics plant. For this purpose, a geothermal heating and cooling system, green roofs and solar panels will be created, as well as a biodiversity park and a recycling plant.

“Levis has recognized the trends of sustainability and digitization as an elementary part of modern business. With the logistics location in Dorsten, they are laying the foundation today for putting these trends into practice,” says Andreas Pinkwart, Minister for Economics and Digital Affairs in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Levi’s currently sells in more than 110 countries worldwide through retail partners, franchise stores and online channels, as well as its own stores.
