The new building will be 16,430 square meters in size and will combine several functions that are currently spread across the base. This brings the maritime operations center, the Navy staff, the port office and various support services under one roof. Secure areas are set up underground for Command & Control in crisis situations.
The total investment amounts to 76.6 million euros. In addition, the tower will also be energy neutral: heat pumps, solar panels and smart technologies should limit energy consumption. “We are not just building for today, but for generations of soldiers who will come after us. A strong navy starts with a strong home base,” conclude Minister Francken and Brugs MP De Vreese.
