The bus was parked on ‘t Zand around 7.15 pm when a fire suddenly broke out. The fire quickly spread and set the entire bus ablaze. All passengers were evacuated in time by the emergency services.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, the irresponsible use of pyrotechnic material was the cause of the fire.
“The suspect acted negligently and irresponsibly, which allowed the fire to start,” the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office said.
The man was arrested by the police on the spot.
“Thanks to the quick intervention of the fire brigade and police, no one was injured,” the public prosecutor’s office said.
The suspect will have to appear before the criminal court in Bruges on December 11, 2025.
