TSG Hoffenheim versus SC Freiburg

As of: November 6th, 2025 9:38 p.m

TSG got off to a flying start in the Baden-Württemberg duel and benefited from a debatable decision.

TSG Hoffenheim won the game in the women’s Bundesliga against SC Freiburg 2-1 (1-0). Valesca Ampoorter took the lead very early (1st minute). In the second half, Luca-Emily Birkholz equalized for SC (66th), before Marie Steiner scored the winning goal (70th).

Both teams had an almost identical record before the start of the game. In the previous eight league games, both TSG and SC had collected 13 points each, with Hoffenheim having a slightly better goal difference.

Slapstick goal to take the lead

Only eleven seconds had been played and TSG still had a better goal difference. Freiburg had kicked off and quickly lost the ball, Valesca Ampoorter made a shot from 30 meters and hit the crossbar, from where the ball bounced to the back of the head of keeper Laura Benkarth and then into the goal – a curious hit.

Hoffenheim then dominated before Freiburg recovered from the early shock over the course of the first half, got into the game better and put pressure on. However, no more goals were scored until the break.

Questionable penalty brings decision

TSG also found their way into the game better in the second half, but failed to extend their lead. That was to take revenge because after about an hour Birkholz threw himself into a cross and scored to equalize. However, this only lasted a few minutes. After a duel between Freiburg’s Aurélie Csillag and Franziska Harsch, referee Angelika Söder pointed to the point – a debatable decision. Steiner converted the penalty. The sports club threw everything forward until the final whistle, but they were unable to equalize.

Next Sunday, TSG Hoffenheim will play against 1. FC Köln (4 p.m.). A day later, SC Freiburg welcomes the top team from Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the tenth match day (6 p.m.).
