Among the Sardinians Marshall also did well, for the Lombards another excellent performance from Veronesi
The sixth day of the championship continues with Sassari who, after 5 defeats in a row, unblocked in the LBA, roughing up Cantù (100-84) at the PalaSerradimigni. Johnson (top scorer with 33 points) and Marshall (24) were decisive, Cantù fell for the fourth time in six games and suffered 16 turnovers. Cremona wins at home against Trento, 92-83, enjoying the Italians (Veronesi 23, Casarin 10) and showing themselves capable of reacting to difficulties within the match. Steward (22 points) is not enough in Trento.

Sassari welcomes its new coach Veljko Mrsic, in the stands due to membership problems, with a convincing victory. After a balanced start, with the teams making an impact in the area, Sassari escaped with an 11-0 break, taking advantage of the great shooting percentages of an excellent Johnson and a triple from Marshall (23-14 in the 8th minute). The Sardinians continue to manage also in the second quarter, building good shots and responding to the good entry of Moraschini, who scores from a distance, with another triple from Marshall which makes it 41-30 in the 15th minute. Brienza’s men continue to struggle to find an offensive rhythm, and lose a lot of balls. The situation for Cantù becomes further complicated when Ceron lights up (triple and 2/2 to free throws) and McGlynn, who imposes himself on the rebound, recovers the balls and scores the 2 points that put the guests at -21 (55-34 near the 20th minute). The home team also started very strongly in the second half, enjoying the very hot hands of Marshall and Johnson, who from the arc established the +26 (67-41 in the 24th minute). The Lombards react with pride, with a triple from Sneed, cuts from Ballo and a triple from Bowden and they get back to -11 (77-66 at 31′). Sassari continues to respond from the arc with Buie and Johnson, nullifying the baskets of De Nicolao and the usual Bowden (85-68 at 33′). Dinamo spreads in the final minutes, benefiting from the usual, highly inspired Marshall and Johnson from beyond the arc and breaks the deadlock in the championship by achieving their first victory.
Sassari: Johnson 33, Marshall 24, McGlynn 11
Cantu: Sneed 16, Gilyard 15, Ball 12
CREMONA-TRENTO 92-83
—
Fourth victory in the championship for Vanoli, who proves to be a tough and dynamic team. Another great performance from Veronesi, who finishes with 23 points. The first minutes of the match are point-to-point. Trento shifts up first and tries to break away with a run of 13-0, built by triples from Jakimovski and Niang, which are worth +10 (11-21 in the 7th minute). A couple of penetrations from Casarin turn Vanoli on. The former Venezia player takes center stage in the second quarter, scoring in penetration and triggering Jones from the arc and Burns, mainly in the area. It was the latter who scored the basket that tied the game at 29 in the 13th minute. Brotto’s men completed the comeback benefiting from an excellent moment from Veronesi, who scored a couple of times from 6 and 75 to put his team at +7 (41-34 at 16′). The guests reacted with a distancing basket from Steward and rewarded Bayehe’s movements in the area, which brought L’Aquila closer, one down at half-time (45-44 at 20′). Vanoli comes out of the locker room better and capitalizes on some lightness from Dolomiti Energia, scoring with Willis and Anigbogu from 3 and with Veronesi, Durham and Ndiaye approaching the basket and finding the lead in double figures (57-46 at 24′). Trento stays in the wake, triggering Bayehe in the area and taking advantage of the talent of Steward, who responds with penetration, to the baskets of the usual Casarin and Burns (69-66 in the 30th minute). Durham tries to put an end to the match, thanks to a couple of talented baskets that make it 76-68 in the 34th minute, but Steward and a very concrete Niang have other ideas and, from the arc, keep the Eagle alive (80-77 in the 37th minute). The presence of Anigbogu on the rebound gives the home team six free throws (86-79 with just under 2′ to go). Niang and Steward miss the next shots and Cremona celebrates their fourth victory in the LBA.
Cremona: Veronesi 23, Anigbogu 13, Durham 11
