Eight cultural institutions in Drenthe will receive a combined 333,333 euros annually for the next three years, a total of around one million. With this subsidy, the province wants to stimulate the further development of the institutions. The money comes from the government benefit ‘Expansion and Innovation’.

This concerns the institutions Peergroup location theater, FestivalDerAa, Puppet International, Art of Wonder, Roestvrij Theater, The Bake Shop, Stichting Literaire Activities in Drenthe and International Film Festival Assen.

The Province of Drenthe works with these cultural institutions to grow, broaden and renew the cultural offering in the province.

The subsidy is used, among other things, to expand activities, talent development, professionalization and increasing national visibility. “We want to focus more on talent development,” says Erik Moesker of the Assen International Film Festival.

“We also want to provide more film education at schools. We currently mainly do this in Assen, but thanks to the subsidy it will be possible to offer film education at schools throughout the province.”

The Assen International Film Festival organizes a film festival in Assen every year, but now wants to hold film festivals in several places. “We would like to organize smaller film festivals, for example in Emmen and Hoogeveen,” says Moesker.

“Literature is often neglected,” says Annette Timmer of the Literary Activities Foundation in Drenthe.

“We have appointed a coordinator and a new website, the Drenthe Literary Agenda, is in the making. This will make it possible for us to strengthen the position of literature in Drenthe,” says Timmer.
