Let the inconspicuous small bakery become the next pilgrimage destination for food tourists, writes Iltalehti news manager Mika Seppänen.
In the picture, maybe Savonlinna meat lörtsy. Pekka Turtiainen
I’ve done it dozens of times in my childhood. The bike under and hurried to open the side door of an ordinary-looking detached house, behind which a heaven of smells and flavors opened up. A subscription to the legendary cordial For Eija and a few minutes later I had a warm treasure wrapped in white baking paper in my arms.
Savonlinna’s meat lortsy, or meat pies, will be offered for the first time at Linna’s celebrations on the upcoming Independence Day. And deservedly so. It is an incredible delicacy that I cannot praise enough, and no one who has tasted it has anything but praise. And it’s great that Alexander Stubb, now as the first president of the republic, realized to share this food culture in Linna as well. The slushies served at the party are East Savon Takuu also includes original Savonlinna residents, but for the time being their editor is not allowed to tell the public about it.
I have a very personal relationship with meat pies – and this refers specifically to the few quality ones made in Savonlinna and not the store’s mile factory products. They have nourished me at every turn of my life: after kindergarten and school, as an evening snack, after training, at family parties, after my father died, and even at my own wedding.
When you get your hands on a freshly prepared meat pie – or even a fresh and heated one – nothing can beat its smell. Brown surface and rough edges. Appropriately thin, but meaty content. Gentle, but delicious, flavors suitable for the whole family. Lunch, snack, dinner or evening snack cannot be more perfect than this. I also recommend it for breakfast.
With President Stubb’s decision, the guests of the Castle’s celebrations will get an incredible treat this year. Elle Laitila
That’s why President Stubb made an incredibly great decision with his delegation. Meat pie from Savonlinna is in the limelight. And when those apple slushies are pretty good too.
From Tuesday, or from Independence Day at the latest, let it be a national phenomenon: Let the inconspicuous small bakery located in Savonlinna – especially Kellarpello – become the next pilgrimage destination for food tourists.
None too soon.
