“The place is not really mentioned in the book, but Amsterdam is of course. Yet people will certainly recognize Medemblik. There is one illustration that people here in the polder will recognize: the illuminated tractor parades that are held here around Christmas.”
The book is called Dare and that title was not chosen lightly. “I especially want the children to enjoy the book. But there is certainly also a small message in it: above all, do and dare. That’s what I did when I started working on this book.”
Signing books for the first time
In the meantime, the author has started work on her second book, which will be published in the summer. But first it’s time to enjoy her debut and all the activities that come with it. For example, on November 8 she will be signing for the first time at the bookstore in Schagen.
“When I got the call that the book was being published, I was so happy! I really had to shed a tear,” says Liz, “Now the book is completely finished. It’s going out into the world and I can’t change anything anymore. I’m so curious what the children will think of it. That’s really exciting.”
