The two men are said to have escaped together from the Forensic Psychiatric Center (FPC) in Ghent at 10:35 am on Friday morning, where they were both detained after committing violent crimes. The police searched for the two men throughout Belgium. The police also put the two on the Most Wanted list, the list of the most wanted criminals in Belgium.

After a tip was received by the police, the two were arrested around 9 am on Saturday morning. This happened in Blankenberge, Belgium, according to the Nieuwsblad.

‘Dangerous’

The federal police warned not to approach them yourself, but to call the police: “Wesley Hanff and Jason D’Herdt pose a danger to the physical integrity of third parties. If you see them, do not approach them yourself, but immediately alert the police.”

Failed robbery murder

More than twenty years ago there was already a commotion when Wesley Hanff threatened to be released. He was arrested in March 2003 after an attempted robbery. A drunken Hanff knocked on the door of his 84-year-old neighbor in Zwijndrecht, Belgium, and wanted to borrow money. Because the woman only had 10 euros in her pocket, he blew his mind. He beat her black and blue, put a plastic bag over her head and turned on the gas tap. He then tried to start a fire. The emergency services were able to save the elderly lady in time.

A year later, a board of psychiatrists deemed him incompetent, and the man was admitted.

Jason D’Herdt was also admitted some time ago, possibly after a number of arsons.

About two weeks ago, a dangerous rapist who was held in the psychiatric center in Ghent also escaped. He was later arrested.
