With a win in the top game, VfB Stuttgart could overtake opponents RB Leipzig and become the sole Bayern hunter in the table. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß remains calm despite the demanding program ahead.
Coach Sebastian Hoeneß does not want to understand VfB Stuttgart’s top game at RB Leipzig as the first real test of this Bundesliga season. “Before that, we also play in the Bundesliga against teams that absolutely have the right to play a very good role,” reassured the 43-year-old football teacher before the Swabian third-placed team’s appearance at the runner-up on Saturday (3:30 p.m. live in the audio stream on Sportschau.de). However, VfB has not yet played against a top seven team in the table this season.
Zagadou is missing again from VfB Stuttgart
After his strong comeback last Saturday Hoeneß will probably have to do without defender Dan-Axel Zagadou, who is repeatedly plagued by serious injuries. The reason for this is muscular problems in the adductor area. The use of offensive player Tiago Tomas is open due to thigh problems.

Sebastian Hoeneß praises opponent RB Leipzig
RB is in “very good shape” and a “team of the hour,” warned Hoeneß. “Regardless of the opponents we have had so far, it is always exceptionally challenging in Leipzig,” said the coach. After the big upheaval in the summer, RB managed to “form an outstanding team”. The new Leipzig coach Ole Werner immediately conveyed a clear idea. After the 6-0 defeat at Bayern at the start, the Leipzig team impressed in the league and have been undefeated since then.
The Stuttgart program is demanding in the coming Bundesliga weeks. The Europa League participants will play three of the next five Bundesliga games against the top teams until December 6th: The Swabians will be guests in Dortmund on November 22nd and will host FC Bayern on St. Nicholas Day. In between there are duels with Augsburg and Hamburger SV.
VfB Stuttgart can become Bayern’s number one hunter
“The points you can get from the games are the same. That’s why I don’t see any more decisive games now than in the last few weeks,” said Hoeneß. “We’re looking forward to competing with the teams. We haven’t shied away from that in recent years.”
VfB has won the last four matches against Leipzig – three times in the Bundesliga and once in the DFB Cup. With another success, the Swabians would overtake RB in the table.
