“I’m really affected by it,” André responded with emotion when he arrived at the Kuurne fire station. He was picked up from the residential care center in Kuurne by a fire truck, together with the mayor. What he didn’t know was that a big party was waiting for him in the barracks.
The birthday boy visibly enjoyed seeing the corps and the new vehicles again. “I used to walk with the hand pump,” laughs André. “Now everything is much easier, the material is the same everywhere. That makes collaboration with other posts a lot easier.” In the dressing room, the honorary firefighter was allowed to put on a suit himself. “The building will be flat before my thumbs are through,” he jokes as he closes the jacket.
