President Javier Milei will receive Mauricio Macri tonight at Quinta de Olivos for a working dinner. The menu, according to official sources, will be Milanese with salad, a nod to the November 2023 meeting that inaugurated the presidential transition. The meeting, initially scheduled for noon, moved to the evening due to scheduling issues. Karina Milei will participate; The Chief of Staff, Guillermo Francos, will not do so.
The meeting comes five days after the victory of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) in the legislative elections on October 26, in which the ruling party obtained 40% of the votes and consolidated relative majorities in both chambers. The objective is to advance consensus for the labor and tax reforms that the Executive will send to Congress in the coming weeks.
The dialogue also responds to an express request from the United States. The financial bailout negotiated by Minister Luis Caputo with Scott Bessent – advisor to Donald Trump –, which contemplates a swap of US$ 20,000 million, debt purchases and Treasury credits, is subject to the construction of “governance” through broad agreements. The package aims to stabilize markets, contain exchange rate pressure and reduce Chinese influence in mining and energy. Along these lines, Milei has already brought together 20 non-Peronist governors to support the zero deficit and labor modernization.
Macri arrives with a certain distance. At the seminar “Bridges: Dialogue to Build” in Chile, he said: “The PRO is more alive than ever and will have its own candidate in 2027.” He also stated: “We have 400 leaders that no one has; what we do not have yet is a known candidate to compete for, which we will obtain in ’27.” He ruled out competing, he said that he prioritizes “supporting correct ideas” such as lower taxes and deregulation, but he expressed annoyance over “distractions”: “I thought we had to support him despite everything, because he won the ideas of change, but this eternal discussion about whether LLA was killing us or not strengthened us.”
His role in the campaign was limited: he supported Fernando De Andreis, fifth on the list of Buenos Aires deputies for LLA, without mentioning the rest or participating in national events. In the City, the PRO obtained 15.9% and placed third, its worst historical result. In the Province, the alliance with Diego Santilli collaborated with the ruling party, but Macri’s silence was read as an independent repositioning strategy, in line with María Eugenia Vidal.
Milei personally invited Macri to thank Buenos Aires for his support and align himself with the roadmap promoted from Washington. In Balcarce 50 they rule out a formal coalition, although they do not close the door to income from the PRO to the Cabinet. Karina Milei and Santiago Caputo monitor that the libertarian identity is not diluted. “Milei has a solid 40%; the PRO can add, but it does not define,” summarized an official.
The meeting exposes a tactical balance: the Government seeks to shield its reform program with external endorsement, while Macri preserves party autonomy with an eye toward 2027. With 40% poverty and high financial sensitivity, dialogue appears as a condition of stability, although structural differences remain latent.
