Apart from Mbappe, the French football player’s family, some Real Madrid football players, including Arda Güler, managers and members of the press also attended the ceremony held at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid for the award given by European Sports Media (ESM).
In his speech after receiving his award, Mbappe said, “It is an important award for me, I won it for the first time and it means a lot. I thank my club and my teammates for always helping me. Coming here was the dream of my childhood and I achieved it. It is a big day.” he said.
Noting that he hopes to receive this award at the end of this season, Mbappe said, “But the most important thing is the success of the team. I hope we continue like this as a team and win championships. These awards cannot be won without the team, fans and club.” he said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Real Madrid Club President Florentino Perez said, “Kylian is one of the best football players in the world. He fulfilled his dream and won this award in his first season at Real Madrid. Dear Kylian, this award is a sign of your commitment to football. I am proud to have a player like you who perfectly represents the values of our club.” he said.
The French player collected 62 points in the Golden Boot ranking with his performance in La Liga, one of the top five leagues in Europe, leaving Sweden’s Viktor Gyökeres (39 goals, 58.5 points in the Portuguese League with Sporting Lisbon) and Muhammed Salah (29 goals, 58 points in the English League with Liverpool).
Mbappe, who scored 31 goals in 34 matches in his first season at Real Madrid, became the top scorer of La Liga in the 2024-2025 season.
Mbappe’s closest rival, Robert Lewandowski, who plays for Barcelona, had 27 goals.
26-year-old Mbappe, who was deemed worthy of this award for the first time in his career, became the first Real Madrid player to win the European Golden Shoe Award in his first season since Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2010-2011 season.
