Many critics are baffled that Marco Borsato has become so involved with the eccentric family of the former chairman of his fan club Nathalie T. TV authority Tina Nijkamp does not understand this at all. She puts him down quite a bit in her podcast The Media Week. “I think he’s incredibly stupid,” she says plainly.

Weird story

Tina can’t follow it. “What I thought is: how on earth did you end up in that family, with the chairman of your fan club, and why did you let yourself be carried away by it so much? That is of course a strange story.”

She continues: “If you have such a well-known artist and have a family of your own, a nice family too, and then you sit at the table with those people so often in private. That is of course a very strange story. The word naive also came to mind, like: I don’t think you are that smart.”

Stupid man

Tina has met Marco in real life, just before his company The Entertainment Group went bankrupt. “Coincidentally, I saw him a few days before that bankruptcy. We both had lunch with the king and queen, then the prince and princess, at that luminary lunch. He was there too.”

On the way back she rode next to him in the car. “I was with a driver and he was driven by his brother Armando. He drove next to me, I saw that, and he was busy calling and doing things the whole time. At that lunch he was still very relaxed.”

Empty shell

Marco must have already known then how close he was to the financial abyss. “Then I thought: are you naive, are you so stupid that you did not realize that The Entertainment Group, which I also worked with as program director of SBS 6… I can tell you one thing: as soon as I took one step over the threshold, I knew: what kind of company is this?”

It was an empty shell, according to Tina. “With champagne, it couldn’t be finished, all big talk, all directors. Exactly why I always hate the television world. That exaggeration, like: look at us driving the Porsche. I hate that so much. In any case: I think people who drive a Porsche are terrible.”

Not smart

It’s stupid that Marco didn’t realize that, Tina decides. “Then I thought: Marco, how could you not have noticed that it was wrong? I thought: you have no EQ, you have no human knowledge, you are just not that smart.”

“If you are such a well-known artist with millions in the bank, don’t you have a number of advisors who are less stupid? That’s what matters to me.”
