Badminton player Kalle Koljonen beat the Taiwanese of Chou Tien-chen set 2–1 (21–19, 19–21, 21–18) in the match played on Wednesday night at the Hylo Open. The tournament is currently underway in Saarbrücken, Germany.

To Yle in his comment, Koljonen stated that the win is probably the hardest of his career.

Tien-chen, who was the opponent in the match, won, among other things, the bronze medal in the singles World Cup three years ago and is currently sixth in the world rankings. Tien-chen beat the third-ranked Thai in the Arctic Open at the beginning of the month Kunlavut Vitidsarn.

The 31-year-old Koljonen’s ranking in the world ranking is currently 55th. He has participated in the Olympics twice in his career. The biggest achievement of my career so far is the bronze medal won at the 2021 European Championships in Kyiv.

– The game stayed together really well from start to finish and every part of the field worked brilliantly. Since the fall, the game has been going at a really good level and finally there was a hard win, Koljonen said in the announcement of the Badminton Association.

The tournament continues in Germany for Koljonen on Thursday from early evening. Finland will face Ireland in the quarterfinals Nhat Nguyen’s.
