In the ProSieben show “Expert for Everything” Klaas Heufer-Umlauf invites the British rock star Yungblud to the Berlin studio. The two discuss the myth of the destroyed hotel room that has attached to rock stars for decades and Yungblud’s new EP with Aerosmith. As is usual on the show, it’s not just conversation – Yungblud gets to demonstrate how to destroy a hotel room as a rock star.

Yungblud is currently considered one of the greatest artists of his generation. His new EP ONE MORE TIME with Aerosmith will be released on November 21st. The Brit is currently on tour in Europe, but a short stopover in Berlin apparently wasn’t a problem: On October 28th he was a guest on Klaas Heufer-Umlauf’s show “Expert for Everything”.

The interview is unusually staged: Heufer-Umlauf and Yungblud sit at the foot of a hotel bed. On the moderator’s knees lies a large book that tells the story of the most spectacular hotel room escapades of well-known musicians. Together they go through the chronicle of the destruction, while Yungblud repeatedly comments on how he himself would approach the devastation. According to Heufer-Umlauf, The Who caused the most expensive damage to a hotel room to date in 1967: “They blew up a toilet, drove a car into the hotel pool, threw food, set off fire extinguishers and destroyed furniture.” The damage was $24,000 – today that would be around $215,000. “Cocaine, man, a devil’s drug,” replies Yungblud, laughing.

“You know a lot of these people. What are they saying? Was everything really wilder before?” asks Heufer-Umlauf. Yungblud reports on Ozzy Osbourne “how shower-crazy he was.” Osbourne was a guest on Heufer-Umlauf a few years ago – so the moderator knows what Yungblud is talking about. At their first meeting, Yungblud says, Osbourne reached into his coat pocket, pulled out a long knife and started making him a salami sandwich. “At first I thought: What’s going on now, is another bat coming out?” remembers Yungblud. Osbourne also gave him some important advice: “He said to me: ‘Don’t compromise. People will understand later.’ We’re all a little crazy in rock and roll, and that can turn people against you.”

Yungblud goes on to explain that he’s missing the craziness in the scene: “Everyone’s so serious lately, it’s about having fun.” When asked what Steven Tyler was up to, he responded dryly: “I can’t say that, I’m going straight to prison. Let’s put it this way: Imagine the craziest thing ever – and he did it.”

Hotel Room Destruction 101 with Yungblud

“The first rule is to find the most expensive item in the room, then the second most expensive item – and then you have to knock them together,” explains Yungblud enthusiastically. But without practice there can be no theory: He throws a vase against the flat-screen television.

“A big cliché is also to throw the television out of the window,” says the musician – and follows his words with actions. He then pulls a knife, which Heufer-Umlauf apparently didn’t know about, slashes the painting above the bed and throws the frame across the room – directly towards the cameraman. “Sorry!” Yungblud shouts in shock, but no one is hurt. Then the presenter and rock star throw themselves onto the bed together, throw it against the wall, smear the wallpaper with red wine, destroy the mirror and lamp, tear out the toilet and tear up the pillows. Finally, Yungblud stands beaming amidst the remains of the hotel room. Down swirls through the air as he hurls the tattered pillow into the audience. “I think we have to serve it,” whispers Heufer-Umlauf.

Yungblud is currently touring Europe, having just completed his first major stadium tour of North America. Another North American tour is scheduled to follow in 2026 after he previously visits Australia. The record ONE MORE TIME will be released on November 21, 2025 – with five songs together with Aerosmith, on which the greats of the old and new generation of rock’n’roll are united.
