New album and tour – that’s what we know so far
The South Korean boy band had to take a temporary break because members Jungkook, Jin, Suga, Jimin, V, RM and J-Hope completed their military service. In the meantime, the individual singers worked on their solo careers, but with Suga being released from his civilian duties, BTS is now getting back together. The group has been working on their comeback for the past few months, as they recently announced.
Together with their label Hybe Co., the group is preparing their first album in six years. “From July we want to start working together and focus on making music,” singer RM said during a livestream with the other members of the boy band. Around 7.3 million people worldwide watched the news being announced.
But that’s not all: The band is also planning their first big tour since 2019. According to people close to the band, 65 shows are planned worldwide, more than 30 of them in the USA and Canada – but these dates have not yet been officially confirmed. A statement from the label said: “Details regarding the dates and scope of the new world tour have not yet been confirmed. The dates mentioned no longer correspond to the current figures that we are currently discussing.”
BTS: The international phenomenon from South Korea
The seven-member boy band brought Korean pop into the mainstream. According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, BTS was considered the world’s most successful band in 2020 and 2021. The group was actually supposed to go on tour in 2020, but the pandemic put a stop to these plans. Over the next two years, BTS played a dozen shows in four cities – their final performances before the members were called up for military service.
After their debut with 2 COOL 4 SKOOL (2013), they released their first studio album DARK & WILD (2014). Their third LP WINGS followed in 2016, with which they sold over a million copies in South Korea for the first time. By 2017, BTS gained international fame through the K-pop subculture and became pioneers of the “Korean wave” in North America. With LOVE YOURSELF: TEAR (2018) the band reached number one on the US album charts. Since the Beatles, BTS are one of the few groups to release four number one albums within two years.
