Tappara softened SaiPa.

On Tuesday evening, Tappara put ugly numbers on the board on their home field, when they beat SaiPa with a score of 5–0.

SaiPa dominated the shooting statistics, and the expected goals were almost evenly distributed, but the most important one, i.e. the goal column, turned strongly to the hosts.

Tappara already led 3–0 after the opening set.

SaiPa’s head coach Raimo Helminen was in a thoughtful mood after the match.

He took all the blame on himself after the defeat.

– Tappara played well, and I failed to prepare our team to play hockey today. That was the problem. Tappara was good and on every side of the field. We couldn’t answer that today. 5–0 – that’s a pretty ugly reading. I need to be able to do a better job, today I couldn’t. It’s that simple, Helminen said at the press conference after the match.

Helminen did not find any positive things worth mentioning about the match.

Helminen’s proteges will face Ilves in their next match on Friday. The twisting is done in Lappeenranta.

The host of the press conference pointedly stated that Friday’s Ilves game is quite big for SaiPa.

– You are right, Raipe nodded with a smile.

After the losing match, Raimo Helminen took the blame on his own neck. MIKKO LIERI / AOP
