Halloween is the festival of well-groomed horror – and what could be better than watching a horror film to go with it? All major streamers offer a selection. But as everyone knows, some films in the genre are terrible for completely different reasons.
The ideal Halloween program is available under the motto “Terribly good films: Halloween horror”) on the noble streaming channel MUBI to see. The curated films include the cult arthouse body horror “The Substance” and the zombie film classic “Night of the Living Dead”.
Anyone who considers “I Saw The TV Glow” to be one of the most original horror films of recent years can discover director Jane Schoenbrun’s debut – “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair” for themselves.
John Carpenter and “Twin Peaks”
Highlights in the program also include several films by “Halloween” veteran John Carpenter (“The Rattlesnake,” “The Fog”), “Twin Peaks” by David Lynch, “Only Lovers Left Alive” by Jim Jarmusch and “It Flows” by John Cameron Mitchell.
For trash film fans there is “Hollywood 90028” about a murderous cameraman in Los Angeles. Anyone who likes the bizarre will find a new favorite film in “Chained For Life” by Aaron Schimberg. From the cabinet of great horror classics, “Cat People” by Jacques Tourneur and “The Nest Of The Cuckoo Birds” (Bert Williams) can be streamed.
