A Pittsburgh Penguins home win was overshadowed by tragedy. The team’s players also heard about it – and didn’t want to talk about sports afterwards.
The mood in the Pittsburgh Penguins arena was actually exuberant. The team from Pennsylvania had just celebrated a home win, but the sporting events quickly became irrelevant: a fan fell from the stands during the game against the St. Louis Blues and was now in mortal danger.
According to the Penguins, the incident occurred on the upper tier of the stadium. The affected person was treated by an emergency team immediately after the fall and then taken to a nearby hospital. Pittsburgh police confirmed to the Pittsburgh Post that the man was in critical condition.
“Our concern continues to be with the person affected and their family,” the club said. Sidney Crosby, captain of the Penguins, was also deeply affected after the 6-3 win. “It doesn’t feel right to talk about points when you hear something like that,” he said. His thoughts and prayers are with the affected person and their family.
In the second game of the evening, the Ottawa Senators celebrated a clear win against the Boston Bruins. In the 7-2 win, Tim Stützle impressed with two goals and an assist in the final third. It was Ottawa’s third win in a row, while the Bruins suffered their seventh defeat in the last eight games.
