Real Madrid will be without captain Daniel Carvajal until further notice. The 33-year-old right-back was diagnosed with “a loose joint in his right knee” after the 2-1 win in the Clásico against FC Barcelona. This entails an arthroscopy. Real did not provide any information about the exact duration of the outage; according to Spanish media reports, it should be two to three months.
Carvajal came on as a substitute in the 72nd minute of the Clásico and played until the end. Just last season, the European champion suffered a torn cruciate ligament and had to sit out almost the entire season. A muscle injury also stopped him in September, meaning he has only made four starting eleven appearances under Xabi Alonso (see injury history).
