Dortmund’s goalgetter Serhou Guirassy has been without a league goal for more than a month. Is it time for the attacker to take a break?

Borussia Dortmund’s top scorer Serhou Guirassy could initially sit on the bench in the DFB Cup game in Frankfurt. Coach Niko Kovač does not rule out a break for the offensive player.

“It could of course be that Serhou gets a little creative break,” said Kovač before the second round game on Tuesday evening at Eintracht Frankfurt (6.30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). He hasn’t made a decision yet: “I still have a little time to think about tomorrow’s game and the next games.”

Guirassy has been waiting for a goal in the Bundesliga since September 13th. The coach is aware that his attacker is currently not scoring. Nevertheless, he sees how committed the 29-year-old is. Kovač praised his attacker as a “sturmführer” who initiates everything – and that is why he will continue to support him.

Even if the coach doesn’t have any personnel concerns at the moment, Guirassy could play from the start, as he did in the late 1-0 win against 1. FC Köln – when FC defender Timo Hübers seriously injured his knee in a duel with the BVB attacker shortly before the end. “It’s the case that everyone is fine. There won’t be any major changes,” emphasized Kovač.

The recovery of Emre Can and Julien Duranville is also positive. Both are working on a comeback, but Kovač doesn’t expect to return until after the international break in November. “But no pressure: We really want to have 100 percent healthy and fit players,” the 54-year-old made clear.
