Ex-Bundesliga professional Vahid Hashemian has to vacate his coaching position at Iranian record champions Persepolis FC after almost four months. The 49-year-old coached the team in eight games, in which there were two wins, five draws and one defeat. For him it was his first position as a head coach in the professional sector.
In a club statement, Persepolis thanked Hashemian “for the sincere cooperation.” On social networks, the club described him as a “calm companion in difficult times”. Hashemian ended his active career at Persepolis in 2012. His successor in the coaching bench will apparently be the Brazilian Osmar Loss, although this has not yet been officially confirmed. Assistant coach Michael Oenning is still at the club.
Hashemian played 51 international matches for the Iranian national team and was active in the Bundesliga for almost a decade from 1999 – at Hamburger SV, FC Bayern, VfL Bochum and Hannover 96. After his professional career, HSV initially hired Hashemian as an assistant coach for the U17 team in 2017, and a short time later he joined the U21 team. The former striker worked as an assistant in the Iranian national team from 2019 to 2022. Hashemian lived in Germany for more than 20 years. He was also called the “helicopter” because of his header ability.
