Hannover 96 won a heated high-security derby at Eintracht Braunschweig and moved up to fourth place in the 2nd Bundesliga. The 3-0 (2-0) win against the arch rivals had two main actors: Finnish national striker Benjamin Källman (32nd/36th) scored two goals for the 96ers and Braunschweig’s Erencan Yardımcı was shown a red card in the 20th minute.
The 23-year-old striker grabbed his opponent Boris Tomiak’s neck with both hands. The guests, who were significantly stronger in terms of football, confidently exploited the more than 70-minute advantage after this choking gesture. Daisuke Yokota (61st) scored after the break.
Last season, visiting fans were largely excluded from this hateful duel for security reasons. This time the Eintracht Stadium was sold out again with 22,089 spectators. The police secured the game with a large-scale operation. And apart from a short interruption, which was caused by the burning of pyrotechnics in the Hannover block in the fourth minute, things remained largely quiet, at least in the stadium. Both fan groups even briefly stopped supporting the team in the second half because of a medic on duty in the stands.
How much poison there is in this derby was shown by the sending off. Yardımcı and his opponent clashed even though the game had just been stopped following a foul elsewhere. The Turk’s blackout and sending off completely unsettled the hosts. When the score was 0-1, three Braunschweig players let the assist provider Mustapha Bundu go. Goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann looked bad at 0:2. A third goal by Källman did not count due to offside (47th). After the red card, only Hannover played in this one-sided derby.
Klose breathes deeply: 1. FC Nürnberg scores late at 1. FC Kaiserslautern
Miroslav Klose won a late point with 1. FC Nürnberg on his return to Betzenberg. The Franconian coach and his team drew 1-1 (0-1) at 1. FC Kaiserslautern. In stoppage time, everyone involved had to wait for minutes until referee Sören Starks finally decided on a penalty for FCN after video evidence. Robin Knoche equalized (90+3). Daniel Hanslik (45th) had previously taken the lead in front of 48,000 spectators in the Fritz Walter Stadium.
The Palatinate team, who had to do without the injured top scorer Ivan Prtajin, remain fifth in the table. FCK idol Klose – the 2014 world champion played as a professional in Kaiserslautern for four years in the early 2000s – had to watch as his professionals made a double mistake when conceding a goal. First Julian Justvan lost the ball in his own half, then Tim Drexler cleared it at the feet of Hanslik.
In the first half, Nuremberg had the better chances – especially Justvan, who shot the ball over the goal in the 15th minute from a penalty after a VAR decision. He slipped during his unsuccessful attempt and also touched the ball twice without permission. Rafael Lubach also put the ball over the empty goal in injury time of the first half. In the second half, Lautern maintained their lead against Nuremberg, who were largely unimaginative – and still had to accept the equalizer.
First home win under Sander: 1. FC Magdeburg beats Preußen Münster
Bottom team 1. FC Magdeburg achieved their first home win of the season with interim coach Petrik Sander. With the lucky 2-0 (0-0) against Preußen Münster, the first success was finally achieved in the fifth attempt. Maximilian Breunig (75th) took the lead with a penalty in front of 23,002 spectators and thus ended the 524-minute goal drought for the Elbestadt team in the 2nd league. Then Rayan Ghrieb increased (90.+2).
The 64-year-old Sander, who will also be in charge of the FCM with Pascal Ibold in the DFB Cup game on Wednesday (6 p.m./Sky) at FV Illertissen, decided against a change after the 0-0 draw in Darmstadt. Prussia coach Alexander Ende was forced to make five changes to the starting line-up due to many injuries and a yellow card suspension.
Magdeburg started cautiously, but was able to celebrate after just seven minutes. But Baris Atik’s remarkable shot into the corner was withdrawn for offside after VAR intervention. Münster had significantly more possession of the ball, but did not take advantage of it.
After the change, the game continued to be very intense, with all the statistics pointing in favor of Münster. The agile Atik (58th/61st) had the best chance of taking the lead, but lacked precision. After Alexander Nollenberger was overzealously knocked off his feet in the penalty area by Malik Batmaz, who was rushing back, a penalty was awarded. Breunig (75th) safely converted this. Then substitute Ghrieb made it 2-0 in stoppage time.
