Despite a strong performance, Hamburger SV lost 0-1 against VfL Wolfsburg and suffered their second defeat in a row. Coach Paul Simonis’ team, which has recently been heavily criticized, celebrated its first win since the first matchday thanks to an early goal from Adam Daghim (15th).

HSV striker Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer failed with a penalty kick against VfL keeper Kamil Grabara, and the Hamburg team also hit the woodwork several times. In addition to the missed penalty, they hit the post and crossbar twice and also missed several great chances.

“We did really well. In the end we failed because of me,” said Königsdörffer self-critically on the Sky microphone. “I wanted to take the penalty, but unfortunately I didn’t score.” Substitute Poulsen and Miro Muheim also had the opportunity to equalize several times – but the ball simply didn’t want to go into the goal.

Wolfsburg’s coach Simonis was relieved after the win: “I’m very proud of the performance, but I also know that the game has to get even better.”

When Jean-Luc Dompé has the ball, HSV fans regularly hope for magical moments. The left winger has been active in Hamburg since 2022 and only extended his contract last spring. Now Dompé has spoken for the first time about what keeps him at HSV.

The 30-year-old told the “Abendblatt” that he would have had other options. “But why should I leave when I feel so good here?” He wants to continue the story that HSV started with its promotion. “That was the biggest success of my career. That’s why I wanted to stay.”

Jean-Luc Dompé has never played for a club for as long as he did in Hamburg. The Frenchman feels very happy. Why is that? “The fans love me, my teammates like me, I have the trust of the coaches and the whole club.” It’s important to him that the fans have fun – he wants to give them something back for their love. “You make me very grateful.”

Tom Mickel is back at HSV: The 36-year-old will be coordinator of the transition area for the youth team. The newcomer said he should closely accompany the youth players who are on the threshold of becoming professionals. Last summer, Mickel ended his career after a total of 16 professional years – 12 of which the goalkeeper spent at HSV.
