Elif Sude Akgül, competing in the women’s 49 kilo category at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships held in China, won the silver medal.

According to the statement of the Turkish Taekwondo Federation, national athletes Elif Sude Akgül and Ömer Faruk Dayıoğlu went on the tatami on the second day of the organization in Wuxi city.

Elif Sude, who passed the first round without a match in the women’s 49 kilo category, defeated Naiara Linan Pardo from Andorra in the second round and Saffron Tambyrajah from Australia in the third round and reached the quarter-finals.

Elif Sude, who defeated Supharada Ateşli from Germany in the quarter-finals, passed Xiaolu Fu from the host country in the semi-finals and made her way to the final.

Elif Sude Akgül, who was also injured, lost to Taiwanese You-yun Liu in the final and received the silver medal.

The 19-year-old national athlete, who won the European championship at lower ages, won the silver medal in the first World Championship he participated in.

Ömer Faruk Dayıoğlu, who competed on the tatami in the men’s 63 kilo category, said goodbye to the championship by losing his third round match against Iranian Mahdi Hajimousaei.
