In honor of The Doors’ 60th anniversary, a concert will take place in Los Angeles at the end of October, featuring original band guitarist Robby Krieger, among others.
The rock celebration on October 30th at the Greek Theater will also feature Perry Farrell, Billy Idol with Steve Stevens, Deryck Whibley of Sum 41, Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots and many more artists.
Robby Krieger is happy about the gratitude of the fans
“Some sixty years ago, when The Doors were making it big, I never imagined that in the next century we would still be talking about The Doors and listening to their records,” Krieger said in a press release about the event. “I’m so grateful that almost every day someone comes up to me and recognizes me and wants to talk to me about The Doors and thank me for making the music that they still love today. The people who recognize me seem to be getting nicer and nicer… I like to say that’s a good problem to have.”
He added: “I love seeing people at the Greek, even though I’ve never played there myself. I’ve seen a lot of shows there and the sound is great. There’s something magical about standing under the stars – like a more intimate Hollywood Bowl.”
Full performance of “Morrison Hotel” planned
As Consequence of Sound reported, a full performance of The Doors’ 1970 classic “Morrison Hotel” will be part of “A 60th Anniversary Doors Celebration.” The line-up also includes Cigarettes After Sex’s Greg Gonzalez, Fantastic Negrito, Masters of Reality’s Chris Goss, Candlebox’s Kevin Martin and Adam Kury, X’s John Doe, Vanilla Fudge’s Carmine Appice, Guns N’ Roses’ Stephen Adler and Orianthi.
The show will be opened by the band Tripform, which includes Pablo Manzarek – the son of the late The Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek.
Active again live at the age of 79
“It’s crazy,” Krieger said of the upcoming celebration in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Daily News. “After Jim [Morrison 1971] After I died, I didn’t play The Doors’ music for a while – probably ten years, maybe even fifteen. After Jim was gone, I thought to myself: It’s over.”
Since then, however, Krieger has appeared more frequently again. As Rock Cellar Magazine reported, he has played several times in Southern California in recent years, including at the legendary Whiskey A Go Go, where he recently gave a series of concerts for The Doors’ 60th anniversary. The Doors played a concert at “Whisky A Go Go” in 1966 that went down as legendary in rock history.
Tickets for “A 60th Anniversary Doors Celebration” can be purchased through Ticketmaster, among other places, and start at $40.
Robby Krieger is now 79 years old. For The Doors he composed some of their most famous pieces, including “Light My Fire”, “Runnin’ Blue”, “Love Her Madly” and “Touch Me”.
