Fedez returns to make people talk about himself with his autobiography The water is deeper than it appears from above (Mondadori). A book that is not just a story of his life, but a raw and unfiltered journey through successes, falls, personal relationships and hidden fragilities. From the divorce with Chiara Ferragni at fights with his friend Ghali, the Milanese rapper lays himself bare, alternating anger, irony and intimate confessions.

Raised in Rozzano, Fedez retraces his “difficult but not too much” childhood and his rise in the world of musicmarked by risky choices and acquaintances on the border between dream and danger. He writes that he «frequented the worst company in Milan which were also the most beautiful, in other ways.”

Among these, it stands out the bond with Ghali, described as a “great friend” but also a partner in fights. «At the first wrong word he would throw himself and get hit. And he had this superpower: nose bleeding even at the lightest touch”, says Fedez, painting a picture of intense friendships, often marked by violence and solidarity. The images of Ghali bleeding “in buckets” become a symbol of the wounds, visible and otherwise, that run through the book.

Fedez confesses in his new book: Chiara, Ghali

One of the most anticipated chapters is the one dedicated to end of the marriage with Chiara Ferragni, an event that shocked the public and the media. Fedez does not hide the suffering: «Our differences emerged like icebergs ready to sink the ship» he confesses. And the stage of Sanremo 2025, where everything started to crumble two years earlier, becomes the symbol of this fracture. “Going back there with a piece was my way of really seeing what happened to us,” he writes.

But the story becomes sharper when Fedez talks about his ex-wife’s acquaintances: «During my marriage I was subjected to frequent contacts with my wife. I had passively accepted that type of thought: the superfancy architect, the one involved in fashion. A beautiful package, but inside, for me, they all stank.” A criticism of the world of Milan-goodwhich the rapper describes as a facade environment, far from his authenticity. “I’d rather date someone who immediately sucks, rather than a wonderful package but little by little you realize it smells rotten,” he adds.

Fragility and rebirth: the struggle with pain

In addition to the controversies, in the book Fedez sincerely addresses his personal battles. The diagnosis of neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas, the same as Steve Jobs, it is a crucial step: «Having managed to talk to Gianluca Vialli he helped me: his serenity gave me strength.” But physical pain is intertwined with mental pain. The decision of abruptly stop taking psychotropic drugs leads to a profound crisis: «They had become my skin, my language, my thoughts», he writes.

The result is “ten days of cramps, legs like blocks of soft flesh, dreams that eat away at reality”, culminating in a suicide attempt. “The police raid your house,” he recalls, underlining how only the intervention of a friendly doctor prevented the news from leaking out. And he admits that he is «I survived my obsessions, but I’m not free from them».

Fedez between fights, politics and provocations

The book is not limited to the private sphere. Fedez tells his flirtation with politics, from the dream of the 5 Stars of Grillo and Casaleggio to disillusionment: «They promised to channel popular anger into democratic forms. But over time I understood that they only quelled that anger.” There is no shortage of attacks on figures like Selvaggia Lucarelli, described as a “truffbuster who enjoys destroying”, and Marco Travaglio: «It needs to be incensed. He went so far as to say: “I hope Fedez hasn’t left Chiara because of me.” I wrote to him that he is a mythomaniac.”

Even the relationship with controversial environments, such as that of the AC Milan ultras, is approached without filters. «I have never been guilty of crimes, but I happen to associate with people who have committed them», he writes. And he quotes the historic head of the curve, Luca Lucci: «If some guys from the curve go to beat up people, and Lucci is under house arrest, what does he know? We should judge the shares, not the companies.”

Fedez describes himself as a “moth” attracted by the light: «People believe that I decide, plan, organize: I am the manipulator, the strategist, I am the moth. But the truth is that, from the beginning, there is a part of me that has decided almost nothing.”
