Guns N’ Roses are currently on tour through Latin America, and on Saturday evening (October 18th) it was their second gig at the Estadio Huracán in Buenos Aires. However, it is questionable whether the band will have fond memories of the concert.

Axl Rose was literally freaking out after just a few minutes when Guns N’ Roses started their gig with “Welcome to the Jungle”. He took out his frustration on new drummer Isaac Carpenter’s tools. He slammed his microphone angrily on the drum kit twice.

As a video filmed by a fan shows, Rose didn’t leave it at that and later climbed onto the drum riser and kicked the bass drum. He also angrily took off his leather jacket, walked off stage without a word and later told the audience: “Well, I’ll just improvise!” After three songs everything went back to normal.

Was the new drummer to blame for Axl Rose’s anger?

It initially remained unclear what caused the singer’s anger. At first it seemed like Rose was having sound problems or was unhappy with Carpenter’s drumming performance. The new drummer only joined Guns N’ Roses at the beginning of the year, replacing long-time member Frank Ferrer.

A spokesman for the musician now explains to the Daily Mail that for long stretches of the song, Axl Rose could only hear the drum sound on his in-ear pads, all other instruments remained silent. Understandably, this is a problem that massively hinders a good performance.

However, the incident could also be described nostalgically as a return to old “weakness”. Stage freaks with Guns N’ Roses were often a part of Axl Rose’s earlier years. Lately, the 63-year-old has been mostly pious (probably because touring is extremely profitable for the musicians) – but exceptions prove the rule.
