TFF shared the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) recordings of the 2 matches played in the 9th week of the Super League as audio and video on its Youtube account. The matches featured in the video and the decisions taken are as follows:

– When the ball went out after the guest team’s attack in the 9th minute of the Kayserispor – Samsunspor match, referee Ümit Öztürk received a recommendation from VAR to ‘examine the field for a potential penalty’. The conversations are as follows:

VAR: “Teacher, this bounces off his own foot, but I’m showing him that it bounced off his foot and hit his arm.”

Ümit Öztürk: “I see what you say, but for me, this is not playing. In other words, the player blocks the ball and plays it. Since his left foot is open, naturally his left hand is also open. Since he hits the ball this way, this arm is open. If you pay attention, the direction of the ball changes very clearly. The ball is spinning and the goal reaches the point where it will turn into its own goal.”

VAR: “Sir, it’s your decision.”

Returning to the field, Öztürk said ‘there is no penalty’ and continued the match from where he left off.

– In the 19th minute of the Fenerbahçe – Fatih Karagümrük match, Dorgeles Nene fell down while entering the penalty area. Referee Ali Şansalan said there was no penalty and showed the corner. After VAR suggested ‘examining the field for a potential penalty’, Şansalan came to the side.

Watching the replay of the position, Şansalan said, “I saw it. Brother Erkan, there was a clear uncontrolled contact with the player’s foot while he was falling. I saw it after he made the tackle, isn’t Balkovec number 29?” he commented. After VAR said “It is true”, Ali Şansalan returned to the field and showed the penalty spot in favor of the yellow-dark blue team and gave Balkovec a yellow card.
