For a long time he did not want to comment on Uli Hoeneß’s statements. Now Max Eberl has done it again.
Max Eberl has once again commented on Uli Hoeneß’s critical statements in the Sport1 “double pass”. In an interview with “11Freunde”, FC Bayern’s sports director looked back on the events – and explained why the public criticism did not surprise him.
“Everything he said in the one-two, he also said to me in a personal conversation,” said Eberl. The 52-year-old didn’t even see the show itself. He accepted Hoeneß’s advice, but also emphasized: “Of course I also have my own ideas.”
During the TV appearance, Uli Hoeneß described Eberl as “pretty sensitive” and indicated differences of opinion on transfer issues. The accusation concerned Eberl. At first he reacted defensively to the label: “At first I thought defiantly: I’m not sensitive.” But then he realized: “Of course I react sensitively when I am convinced of something; after all, I am passionate about it.”
Eberl and Hoeneß have known each other for over three decades. The current sports director already had contact with him as a young player. Even during his time as manager in Gladbach, Eberl Hoeneß often asked for advice. Eberl still wants to stick to his basic approach. “If I only did my job the way others tell me, I wouldn’t be doing what I think is best for the club,” he explained. “I have my ideas and I want to show what I believe.”
