A forty-year-old man from Den Bosch will go to jail for 21 months because he stabbed several times with a knife during a fight with a group of Ajax supporters. Four supporters were injured in the stabbing in March 2022 in Den Bosch, some of them seriously. According to the court in Den Bosch, the man from Den Bosch used senseless and excessive force.
On the evening of March 22, 2022, things got out of hand on Stationsplein. A number of football supporters happened to bump into each other. One of them carried an Ajax flag. When the native of Den Bosch shouted ‘Feyenoord’ and stood close to a group of Ajax supporters, the atmosphere became grim.
Permanent scars
The suspect grabbed a knife and made waving movements with it. A fight broke out in which several people were injured in a few minutes. Four of them suffered cuts and stab wounds that, according to the judge, were inflicted by the suspect. The victims had to go to a hospital. Three of them have been left with permanent scars.
The court states that the resident of Den Bosch, who has often been aggressive in the past, has not shown any respect for other people’s lives. He also committed a ‘gross violation of the physical and psychological integrity of the victims.’ Moreover, it all took place on a busy station square and in the early evening. Many people saw it happen.
Cooperative and guilty
There is one mitigating circumstance: all fighters seemed to be looking for a confrontation that evening. The man from Den Bosch ended up facing a group alone and was injured himself. The judge was also pleased that the man immediately cooperated with the investigation and that he was conscious of his guilt. Including apologies to the victims.
In addition to the 21-month prison sentence, the court imposed an obligation on the citizen of Den Bosch to pay compensation to the four victims. The total amount is more than 10,700 euros.
For his part in the argument, a 34-year-old man from Raamsdonksveer previously received 120 hours of community service. He had kicked the resident of Den Bosch, among other things.
