After the early dismissal of coach Ange Postecoglou, Nottingham Forest have found a successor. Sean Dyche signed a contract until the summer of 2027 on Tuesday morning. The 54-year-old has come full circle. Dyche started his playing career at Nottingham and still lives in the region today.

Dyche is the third coach of the Ticky Trees in the young season. In September, Nuno Espírito Santo had to vacate his position at the Europa League participants after lengthy quarrels with owner Evangelos Marinakis, and his successor Postecoglou was over again after eight winless games in 39 days. With five points from eight games, Nottingham is in 18th place in the Premier League (table).

Dyche was most recently employed at Everton FC, where his term ended in January 2025. He averaged 1.23 points in 83 games and was replaced by David Moyes after two years. Dyche is familiar with the relegation battle in the Premier League from his time at Burnley FC, which he kept in the league for several years with limited resources.

Dyche has a deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its fans, Nottingham explained the choice of coach in a statement. He brings the perfect mix of character, tactical skills and proven success to lead the club through the difficult phase. Dyche’s teams would have been characterized by defensive organization, resilience and strength from set pieces – qualities that would fit the attributes of the current Forest squad and the club’s footballing identity.
